A knowledge gained through intuitive action is central to the exploratory sketches and paintings collected here. The direct mind/hand/eye interaction is a crucial tool on the way to a concept which may drive a design. At the scale of the hand, the 5"× 7" watercolor notebook format has remained a constant over thirty years of my collaborations towards architecture. The initial analogue concept sketch is supercharged with digital drawings, models, and digital fabrications.

We continue to work on small projects, an interior or a house, while other projects might be over 1,000,000 square feet; an astonishing jump in scale considering a project's origins in a 5"×7" concept sketch.
