A beautiful book of 22 residences illustrated with over one hundred photographs by Alan Weintraub. Many houses also include small plans and/or sketches. Approximately 150 color and 50 black + white illustrations.

Dust jacket has very light shelf wear. Roughly 15 pages (30 by pagination) at the back of the book have very small, very slight crease where page block was bumped. Rest of pages and boards are clean and crisp. Near fine condition.

Often built or designed for family members or major clients (as well as several for himself), the houses demonstrate a wealth of solutions that respond to a wide range of sites: the steep hillsides of Rio, the flat plains of Brasilia, the Atlantic beach shore, the rain forest, the residential neighborhoods of Rio and São Paulo. Some of the designs are as daring conceptually as Niemeyer's own 1953 house with its free-form concrete roof and curving glass walls.

Others surprisingly reveal Niemeyer's appreciation of the historic Portuguese colonial architecture of Brazil.
