Limited edition of 1200. Very scarce early Turrell book mostly documenting the design of the Roden Crater project, now nearly 50 years in the making and set to be completed soon.
Published on the occasion of an exhibition by James Turrell at the Kunsthalle Basel, 1987. No dust jacket as issued.
Front corner of boards is bumped, causing a small crease at corner of board and a minimal wave at some pages' corners. Otherwise pristine. Very good ++ or near fine condition.
First half is devoted to essays by Jean-Christophe Ammann, Craig Adcock, E. C. Krupp, and Mario Diacono.
Second half features photographs and drawings for early Turrell light and sky works; aerial surveying and mapping; and Roden Crater project. Includes fold-outs and Roden Crater chamber architectural drawings on translucent overlays.
Includes Roden Crater topographical map in pocket at rear. Unfolded map measures 26.9 × 21.9 inches.
