First edition, second printing. Page 160 shows "B C D E" printing line..
One of the most scarce and radical titles in the Golden Guide series of natural history. Richly illustrated by Elmer W. Smith and written by Richard Evans Schultes.
Schultes was one of the first scientists to study the hallucinogen use and rituals among indigenous people. His intent for the book is quite clear in his introduction : "A great body of scientific literature has been published about their uses and their effects, but the information is often locked away in technical journals. The interested layman has a right to sound information on which to base his opinions. This book has been written partly to provide that kind of information."
Former owner's name and address stamped on title page. Cover has light wear at edges and minimal surface wear. Very minimal soiling 1" wide spot at page block. (As if from soil on reader's thumb) Otherwise pages and binding are clean and crisp. Lightly used copy. Very good + condition.
