TOM SACHS | Sony outsider- signed

Behind Sony's corporate throne lies an irreverent insurrection - a renegade encampment of bricoleurs united in their sacred mission to MacGyver devices of whimsy and wonder from the empire's mass-produced spoils. Allow yourself to be indoctrinated into Sachs' cult of inspired, upcycled creativity.  Sachs takes on themes of commercialism, media consumption, and armageddon with a custom- fitted living quarters inside of a full-size recreation of the Fat Man atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan.

Signed by Tom Sachs on the title page.

Scarce Sachs publication by SITE Santa Fe. Published on the occasion of "Sony Outsider", a very early 1999 Sachs performance/sculpture hybrid that has all the key elements of his NASA and later appropriation work. 14 color plates. Additional black and white sketches and illustrations.

Softcover with printed vellum jacket. Pristine condition. Jacket has very minor imperfections. Fine book in fine jacket.

Sach's artist statement from the book :
"Total destruction is the only solution.
In Stanley Kubrick's 1964 film, Dr. Strangelove, Slim Pickens rode the bomb, as he would a bronco, toward Armageddon. Our fin de siècle progress from that primitive time is apparent in the abundance of technology that pervades our daily life. So if, as some predict, the millennium promises to bring the real Armageddon, why not arrive in style?
Or maybe it's really all about a cozy place to hole up and watch TV." -Tom Sachs
